BRISBANE, Queensland, Oct. 8 -- The Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet issued text of the following statement:
Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth
The Honourable Sam O'Connor
* Crisafulli Government delivers new social homes at Waterford West, providing a place to call home for moreQueenslanders.
* All homes built with accessibility features to support residents to live independently and age in place.
* 680 social and affordable homes now underway across Logan, including 592 being delivered in partnership with community housing providers.
* The Crisafulli Government is repairing Labor's Housing Crisis, after former Government oversaw falling housing approval rates and a skyrocketing social housing register during their decade of decline.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering more vulnerable Queenslandersaplace to call homein Logan, with 29 new social homes officially opened today at Waterford West.
Queenslanders felt the impact of Labor's Housing Crisis, after a decade that saw housing approvals fall by 36 per cent across Queensland, rents rise by almost 60 per cent, and the social housing register grow almost 80 per cent.
Treefern Villas, delivered in partnership with Community Housing Limited (CHL), includes 18 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom homes designed particularly for Queenslanders aged over 55, including social housing tenants looking to right-size into a home that better suits their needs.
All 29 homes have been built with accessibility features, are single-level living, private outdoor areas and access to nearby public transport, healthcare, shops and services.
The new homes form part of a growing housing pipeline across Logan, with 680 social and affordable homes currently underway across the area.
While Labor averaged just 509 social and community homes a year, the Crisafulli Government is on track to deliver 2,000 homes a year on average from 2028, including boosting housing supply.
Across Queensland more than 7,000 social and affordable homes are now under construction or contracted for delivery, while 11,205 social and community homes have either been delivered or are underway towards the Government's target of 53,500 by 2044.
The Crisafulli Government is investing a record $5.725 billion over four years to build new social and community housing across the State.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O'Connor said the Crisafulli Government was delivering more Queenslanders a place to call home.
"Every one of these 29 homes means another Queenslander has a safe and secure place to call home," Minister O'Connor said.
"These are thoughtfully designed homes that will allow older Queenslanders to live independently and stay connected to their local community.
"Importantly, helping older tenants right-size into a home that better meets their needs can also free up larger social homes for families who need that extra space.
"We've got 680 social and affordable homes underway across Logan and more than 7,000 underway across Queensland as we continue to ramp up delivery.
"More than 70 per cent of our social and community housing pipeline is being delivered in partnership with community housing providers, because we know working together is how we get more homes on the ground, sooner.
"Our record $5.725 billion investment is about building the homes Queensland needs and delivering a place to call home for more vulnerable Queenslanders."
CHL Queensland State Manager Carly Bairstow said Treefern Villas had been designed to support independence, security and long-term wellbeing.
"These villas have been purpose-designed and built for people seeking a right-sized home that supports them to age in place within their local community," Ms Bairstow said.
"The 29 one-bedroom and two-bedroom villas offer modern, single-level living with accessible design features, private outdoor patios and a low-maintenance environment.
"By supporting people to move into homes that better suit their needs, we help free up larger social housing for families who are waiting."
