CANBERRA, ACT, July 3 -- The Treasurer of Australia issued the following media release:

The Albanese Government will recommend to the Governor‑General that Therese McCarthy Hockey and the Hon David Bradbury be appointed as Deputy Chairs of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) for five‑year terms.

These appointments bring the best available mix of strong leadership, experience and fresh thinking to the regulator.

The appointment of two Deputy Chairs will enhance APRA's capability to meet its objectives at a time of increasing scale and complexity in the financial system.

MsMcCarthy Hockey is currently an APRA member and brings more than 20years' experience in financial markets having worked internationally and domestically in senior leadership roles in the private sector, in addition to her role at APRA overseeing banking supervision, strategy, risk and compliance.

She has an extensive background in regulation, litigation and enforcement and expertise in prudential oversight, governance and protecting financial system stability.

We will recommend MsMcCarthy Hockey commence as Deputy Chair on 9July 2026.

MrBradbury brings more than 25years' experience across economic policy, regulation and public administration. He is currently Chair of the Board of Taxation, has held senior leadership positions at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development for more than a decade, and was a partner in the consulting division at KPMG Australia. He is also an Honorary Professor at The Australian National University. MrBradbury served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer between 2010 and 2013.

We will recommend MrBradbury commence as Deputy Chair on 1September 2026.

MsMcCarthy Hockey and MrBradbury were successful in a merit‑based selection process chaired by Treasury Secretary Jenny Wilkinson, with APRA Chair John Lonsdale and Attorney‑General's Department Secretary Katherine Jones PSM serving on the selection panel.

We thank Margaret Cole for her service as APRA Deputy Chair. She has made a significant contribution to strengthening prudential oversight and supporting the resilience of Australia's financial system.
