* Detailed design underway for safety improvements at two key Toowoomba intersections.
* The project will investigate improvements to the Kitchener Street andRuthven Street intersections along James Street to address crash risks, improve traffic flow and provide safer facilities for pedestrians.
* The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's futureafter a decade of decline under Labor.
The Crisafulli Government is progressing vital safety upgrades at key intersections along James Street in Toowoomba after Labor ignored years of desperate pleas from locals calling for improvements through the Garden City.
Detailed design works are underway to address known crash risks at the Kitchener and Ruthven Street intersections, particularly to resolve issues with right-turn traffic movements and pedestrian safety.
Unlike Labor, who failed to do the work to address the serious concerns for motorist and pedestrian safety, the Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering for Queenslanders.
Design work will consider a range of potential improvements, including new and extended right-turn lanes, an extended left-turn lane at the Ruthven Street intersection, a new signalised pedestrian crossing, raised pedestrian crossings at existing slip lanes, upgraded traffic signals and kerb ramps, and restrictions on filtered right-turn movements.
Treasurer and Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said the upgrades would save lives and improve traffic flow through the heart of Toowoomba.
"Toowoomba locals have waited too long to see these intersections receive the safety upgrades they desperately needed," Treasurer Janetzki said.
"The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of targeting known crash risks at two important intersections on James Street.
"This is another example of the Crisafulli Government supporting regional Queensland's growing population and delivering the infrastructure for our growing city."
Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said these critical intersection upgrades will benefit the entire community.
"These intersections play an important role in moving people and freight through Toowoomba, making them safer and more efficient will benefit everyone who uses the corridor," said Mr Watts.
"The design will look at how we can improve traffic flow, ease congestion, and reduce the risk of serious crashes.
"Anyone who has turned right onto James Steet from Kitchener Street or Ruthven Street knows just how dangerous this intersection can be, and why this work is so desperately needed."
