Belconnen, ACT, Oct. 23 -- ACT Policing issued the following media release:
ACT Policing hascharged28-year-old manfollowing a vehicle theft and an aggravated burglary earlier this month.
On 1 October 2025, police allege the man attended a car hirestorefront at Canberra Airport and stole a set of keys for a white Mazda CX-3before stealing the vehicle from the carpark.
About 5am on 2 October 2025,two peoplebroke into a home inEvatt. The28-year-oldman allegedly smashed a windowwitha hammer before returning to thestolenvehicle, whileanunknown person entered the residence through the broken window.
Once inside, the unknown personallegedly threatened the residentwith a weapon beforefleeingthe scene with a safe.
The Mazda waslocatedthe following dayat a homeinQueanbeyanby officers fromNewSouth Wales PoliceForce. On9 October 2025,policeexecuted a search warrant at theresidence, where several items were seized, including a safe matching the description of the one stolen from the Evatt residence.
Following multiple attempts tolocatethe man, ACT Policing officers attended the ACTcourtprecinctyesterday (Wednesday, 22 October 2025) where the man waslocatedand placed under arrest.
The man- who was subject to goodbehaviourobligations -will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of ride/drive motor vehicle without consent, joint commission aggravated burglary,and drivingwhilesuspended.
