A NSW man is expected to face Parramatta Bail Court today (1 August, 2026), charged for the alleged possession of prohibited weapons, border controlled drugs and importing a knuckle duster bearing Nazi symbols.

The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in June, 2026, after receiving a referral from the Australian Border Force (ABF).

ABF seized the knuckle duster in February, 2026, after inspecting an international mail consignment.

AFP NSI officers executed a search warrant at a property in Hamlyn Terrace, NSW, yesterday (31 July, 2026) and seized three further knuckle dusters, a firearm, other prohibited weapons and suspected border controlled drugs.

The man, 49, was charged with:

* Five counts of unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to section 7(1) of the Weapons Prohibition Act 1998 (NSW). The maximum penalty for this offence is 14 years' imprisonment;* One count of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, contrary to section 7(1) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW). The maximum penalty for this offence is 14 years' imprisonment; * One count of import a tier 2 prohibited weapon being a Nazi insignia knuckle duster, contrary to section 233BAB(5) of the Customs Act 1901(Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years' imprisonment; * One count of possessing a controlled drug,namely Cannabis, contrary to section 308.1 of the Criminal Code (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is two years' imprisonment; and * One count of traffic in a substance, the substance being a controlled drug, namely Cannabis, contrary to section 302.4(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is 10 years' imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges have not been ruled out.

AFP Detective Superintendent Nathan Robertson said the AFP continued to work closely with border and law enforcement partners to prevent prohibited weapons entering Australia.

"The AFP and Australian Border Force are committed to identifying and disrupting attempts to import prohibited weapons into Australia," Det Supt Robertson said.

"Items such as knuckle dusters have no legitimate place in our community, and can pose a significant risk to public safety.

"Anyone who attempts to import prohibited weapons should expect to be identified and prosecuted."

ABF Superintendent Danielle Honey said the interception highlighted the critical role ABF officers played in protecting the Australian community from harmful and illegal imports.

"Every weapon stopped at the border is one less threat reaching our streets, and this detection is a testament to their vigilance and expertise," Superintendent Honey said.

"Not only are knuckle dusters a prohibited weapon, but the presence of Nazi symbolism on them makes this detection particularly concerning.

"The ABF is committed to working with its law enforcement partners to identify, investigate and disrupt those seeking to import prohibited weapons into Australia."

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams inOctober,2025, to target groups and individuals causinghigh levelsof harm to Australia's social cohesion.
