Belconnen, ACT, Sept. 15 -- ACT Policing issued the following media release:
ACT Policing is seeking the public's help following reports of a man who allegedly pointed a handgun at multiple members of the public today.
About 8:30am this morning (Monday, 15 September 2025), police responded to reports of the man walking along Chandler Street in Belconnen with a black handgun.
Police will allege the man pointed the firearm at buildings, cars and several members of the public.
A short time later, officers located and arrested a 43-year-old Belconnen man. The firearm was located on the man and was later confirmed to be replica handgun.
There is no ongoing threat to the community.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, with brown hair and slim build. He was wearing a dark denim jacket, blue jeans, grey jumper and white sneakers.
The man has been charged with act to cause public alarm and unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident around Chandler Street and Swanson Street this morning from 8:30am to 8:40am.
The public is reminded that possessing or manufacturing a firearm, including replicas and gel blasters, is illegal in the ACT and can result in severe penalties, including substantial fines and imprisonment.
