Authorities are appealing for information as a search continues to locate a detainee who escaped from custody at Bankstown yesterday.
Michael Angok, aged 30, was transported from Villawood Immigration Detention Centre to Bankstown Hospital yesterday (Wednesday 8 April 2026), where he escaped, running off shortly after 9.30am.
Police were notified and officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command attended and with the assistance of specialist resources - SWM OSG, SCC Raptor, PolAir and the Dog unit - established a perimeter and conducted a search of the area.
A number of personal items were located discarded on Gallipoli Road; however, Michael could not be located.
Michael is described as being of African appearance, about 175cm to 180cm tall, of thin build with short black hair.
He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper, grey tracksuit pants and white 'croc' sandals.
Michael previously resided in the Blacktown area and may utilise the public transport network.
As the search continues, anyone who sees Michael is urged not to approach him but to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
